Mentor2youth history

Mentor2Youth was founded by Emmanuel Jones in 2010 as a small after school program on the south side of Ypsilanti. The seeds of the organization were planted while Jones was still a student at Eastern Michigan University. The program focus: tutoring, mentorship, and career planning. Learn more about Mentor2Youth’s founding in this 2018 WEMU interview with Jones.

In October 2019, Darryl Johnson was named the new executive director of Mentor2Youth. Building on Jones’ vision, Johnson introduced the Raising Royalty curriculum and philosophy to Mentor2Youth’s program. Despite pandemic disruptions, the organization has remained committed to addressing the achievement gap for Ypsilanti students – and to building upon Jones’ vision for the community.  Learn more about current Mentor2Youth programs for youth and families.

Mentor2Youth has emergent plans to expand their programs to serve elementary school, middle school, and high school students of all genders through in-school, after-school, and summer programs – and they can’t do it without you.
